The music company states that “Animation will provide a modern interpretation of her story.” Six decades after her death, the renowned European singer Édith Piaf will be the central focus of a new cutting-edge animated biopic that leverages artificial intelligence to recreate her voice and likeness. The film, titled Edith, a collaborative effort between Warner Music, Piaf’s estate, and production company Really Content, is set against the backdrop of Paris and New York spanning the 1920s to the 1960s. As reported by Variety, Piaf’s AI-generated voice will narrate the film and perform iconic songs such as “La Vie en Rose” and “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.”

Warner Music’s press release highlights that through animation, audiences will gain an authentic glimpse into pivotal moments of Piaf’s life, incorporating historical images, stage and television performances, personal footage, and TV interviews. The utilization of AI technology, trained on a vast collection of Piaf’s audio clips and images, aims to bring forth her distinctive voice and image with heightened authenticity and emotional impact.

This upcoming movie, conceptualized by Julie Veille in collaboration with Gilles Marliac, remains unreleased but promises an innovative approach. Veille, known for her work on Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Donna Summer TV projects, expressed her gratitude, stating, “It has been an immense honor to collaborate with Edith’s estate in bringing her story to the contemporary era.” Throughout the production process, the team pondered what insights Edith would impart to younger generations if she were present today. Her narrative of remarkable resilience, triumph over adversity, and defiance of societal norms to achieve greatness remains profoundly relevant. The aim is to present this timeless story to audiences of all generations by harnessing the latest advancements in animation and technology.
