Adobe has introduced an artificial intelligence assistant in its Reader and Acrobat applications, enabling users to generate summaries and receive answers to queries regarding PDF documents. This feature is integrated within the applications, distinguishing it from other AI models like ChatGPT, which necessitate PDF uploads. The AI assistant is currently in beta, with plans for a subscription service post-beta release.
During the launch event in San Francisco on April 23, 2012, David Wadhwani, senior vice president of digital media at Adobe, unveiled this innovative AI assistant. The tool aims to enhance document comprehension by providing concise document summaries and facilitating interactive questioning through a conversational interface. Additionally, it can suggest relevant queries and generate citations for source verification. Moreover, the AI assistant can assist in creating content for various formats such as emails, presentations, and reports.
Adobe’s CEO, Shantanu Narayen, emphasized the company’s vision to democratize access to the vast repository of PDFs globally. By enabling users to efficiently navigate and extract insights from lengthy documents, the AI assistant streamlines information processing and enhances productivity. Narayen highlighted the tool’s capability to summarize documents, engage in conversations, ask questions, and correlate information across multiple files within an enterprise context.
Addressing competition from OpenAI’s ChatGPT and their new video generation tool, Sora, Narayen mentioned Adobe’s ongoing efforts to develop video models responsibly. He emphasized the company’s commitment to integrating such technologies thoughtfully into their tools and workflows, ensuring a seamless user experience.
