More than 120 new countries and territories are set to receive Generative AI for research, as per a recent announcement by Google. This marks the largest global expansion of the Search Generative Experience (SGE) to date.
Initially exclusive to the US, SGE was later introduced in India and Japan. Now, it has been launched in numerous additional locations, including South Africa, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, and Mexico. The complete list of nations and territories where SGE is accessible can be found here.
In the newly added countries, users can now utilize SGE on Chrome desktop by visiting Search Labs. Furthermore, access will soon extend to iOS and Android devices through Google software updates over the next year.
For users of SGE, Google has introduced support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian.
Moreover, users have the option to request further details directly from the search results page. Additionally, they can review past queries and research outcomes, including relevant ads, displayed in designated advertising sections on the page as they delve deeper into the topic. This update is scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks, starting with the US in English.
In the near future, when using SGE to translate a term with multiple meanings, the specific interpretation can be highlighted for clarity. By selecting any of these highlighted terms, users can indicate the precise meaning they intended. This AI-powered language feature, starting with English to Spanish translations, will debut in the US, with plans to support additional languages and countries later on.
Lastly, certain terms related to coding and health will be emphasized in related searches, providing a preview of their definition or relevant images upon hovering over them. This feature will initially be available in English in the US in the next quarter, with a gradual expansion to more countries and languages.
