### Unpacked 2024: Introducing Galaxy AI, S24 Ultra, and More

The Korean giant’s San Jose event saw the unveiling of new Galaxy S24 smartphones, all powere…

Samsung is set to launch three different models of the Galaxy S series this time. While the standard and Plus variants have never been as extravagant as the Ultra model, this year, the company has introduced several enhancements that make these two devices quite promising.

In terms of design, the phones feel slimmer and lighter compared to previous iterations, featuring a flat-edged design reminiscent of an iPhone. They are available in Violet, Yellow, Gray, and Black color options, offering storage capacities of up to 512GB and 12GB of RAM.

Both the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus now come equipped with variable refresh rate displays. This means that the screens can adjust their refresh rates based on the task being performed, providing a lower refresh rate for static images and a higher one for dynamic activities such as gaming. Moreover, these displays are brighter than ever, boasting a rating of 2,600 nits, which is significantly higher than the iPhone 15’s 2,000-nit rating.

The new LTPO displays contribute to improved efficiency, complemented by larger 4,000mAh and 4,900mAh batteries in the standard and Plus models, respectively—an increase of 100mAh each from the previous models. However, the charging speeds for the standard and Plus models are capped at 25W and 45W, respectively, with no support for Qi2 wireless charging.

Powering these devices is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, delivering enhanced graphics performance and AI computing capabilities. Additionally, the Plus model offers more RAM at 12GB compared to the standard model’s 8GB.

Samsung has upgraded the cameras in the new Galaxy S24 lineup with larger pixel sensors and 2x wider optical image stabilization. This results in clearer, less shaky photos and videos in low-light conditions, along with improved color accuracy overall.

The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are priced starting at \(799 and \)999, respectively, maintaining the same price point as last year. This is reassuring, considering the hardware and software improvements across the board. Furthermore, Samsung now guarantees up to seven years of operating system updates for all Galaxy S24 models, aligning with Google’s commitment to its devices.
