According to reports, Tang Tan, the vice president of phone architecture at Apple, is departing from the company to collaborate with renowned designers Jony Ive and Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, on a new AI hardware project.

As per Bloomberg, Tang Tan will oversee electronics engineering for AI-powered devices at Jony Ive’s LoveFrom design firm, with a focus on products designed for household use, albeit still in the early stages of development.

The ultimate goal, as outlined in the report, is for Jony Ive to establish a standalone entity within the AI hardware industry through LoveFrom’s initiatives in AI-encoded tools.

Reports suggest that Altman has been contemplating the launch of a new AI venture since November, with a specific emphasis on advancing AI technology.

Further details about Altman’s vision for AI development have emerged, indicating a strategic shift towards pioneering AI technology in collaboration with Jony Ive.

In September, there were discussions about a groundbreaking AI technology project involving Ive and Altman, potentially introducing a revolutionary AI device.

Notably, Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank, has engaged in discussions with both Ive and Altman regarding this innovative AI venture, as reported by sources familiar with the matter.

It is worth mentioning that OpenAI’s robotics research division was dissolved in July 2021 due to technical challenges.
