Warner Music and the rights holders of the iconic French music figure, Edith Piaf, have announced plans to develop an animated biopic project with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
The announcement of this innovative project, utilizing AI to recreate Piaf’s voice and image, coincides with the 60th anniversary of the renowned singer of “Non, je ne regrette rien.”
Unlike recent unauthorized uses of AI in music, such as the creation of a duo using the voices of Drake and The Weeknd without consent, this project signifies a significant milestone. Similarly, the release of a new official Beatles song, “Now and Then,” showcases the potential of AI technology in music production.
The song “Now and Then” originated from a demo recorded by John Lennon in the late 1970s, which was later completed and released with the contributions of the remaining Beatles members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, utilizing AI to isolate Lennon’s voice and integrate it with other recordings.
In the case of Edith Piaf, the AI technology will leverage vocal excerpts and images spanning over 80 years to authentically recreate her voice and image, enhancing the emotional impact of her story. The film, set in Paris and New York from the 1920s to the 1960s, will be narrated by Piaf’s voice, revealing previously undisclosed facets of her life while featuring her original recordings.
The project promises to offer a unique and immersive experience, shedding light on the life and artistry of Edith Piaf through the innovative use of AI technology.
