According to officials, a Maryland high school sports director was detained after he reportedly created racist and antisemitic recordings using his boss’s voice.

Dazhon Darien, 31, an athletic director at Pikesville High School, allegedly fabricated the recording in retaliation against his employer, Pikesville Principal Eric Eiswert, who was investigating Darien’s possible misuse of school funds, officials said.

At a press conference on Thursday, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough stated that officials were first informed of the recording on January 17 and carefully investigated the complaints before making the revelations public.

The Baltimore County Police Department became aware of a voice recording being distributed on social media on January 17, 2024, according to McCullough. It was claimed that Mr. Eric Eiswert, the principal of Pikesville High School, is the one who recorded the message on the audio file. We now have convincing proof that the audio was not authentic.

Officials said that in their “extensive analysis,” both the FBI and a forensic scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, concluded that the recording was fraudulent.

The AI-generated voice of Eiswert is heard making derogatory comments about Black and Jewish people at the school in the recording, which was first sent school-wide to teachers and staff and then widely circulated on social media.

According to charging documents obtained by The Baltimore Banner, “It should be noted that comments in the recording spoke to Eiswert’s alleged frustrations with the test scores of African American students and assertions that they [African American students] were unable to ‘test their way out of a paper bag.’

“The recording continued to make disparaging remarks about two Israeli teachers who ‘should have never been hired’ at the school. The recording depicted a conversation between Eiswert and one of PHS’s Assistant Principals,” charging documents obtained by the local outlet said.

Officials claimed that the recording had implications for Eiswert, who was the subject of a “wave of hate-filled messages on social media and various threats to the school.”

“The audio clip had profound repercussions,” police said. Eiswert’s temporary removal from the school was caused by it, according to the report. It also caused a wave of hate-filled social media posts and numerous phone calls to the school. Additionally, the recording caused significant disruptions for the PHS staff and students.
