Since the dawn of time, exceptional art has continuously pushed boundaries and challenged our perceptions of reality. In recent years, there has been a notable shift in the art landscape, with an increasing number of artists leveraging AI as a creative tool to craft 2D visuals, generate convincing deepfake videos, and develop captivating immersive experiences.
In June 2023, a groundbreaking development in AI artistry emerged from the collaborative efforts of Ryan Burgert, Kanchana Ranasinghe, and Xiang Li, doctoral candidates at Stony Brook University, alongside Professor Michael Ryoo, the SUNY Empire Innovation Associate Professor at the AI Institute within STONY Brook University. Their pioneering work at the IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2023 showcased the project titled “Diffusion Illusions: Concealing Images in Plain View,” earning them the prestigious Demo Award.
Through the utilization of language-driven algorithms, the team introduced a range of mesmerizing optical illusions such as Flippy Illusions, Rotating Overlays, and Hidden Characters, revolutionizing the creation of lifelike graphical elements.
