According to a report by McKinsey, there is significant potential for the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in various sectors in China within the next decade. China’s tech giants are actively developing generative AI, deploying large language models (LLMs) for applications such as 3D e-commerce, weather forecasting, and financial analysis to compete with US companies.

The primary goals include boosting organizational productivity and enhancing user experiences. Despite historical lag in creativity and research and development (R&D) spending compared to global counterparts in industries like electronics, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, and life sciences, China is poised for substantial AI growth.

Huawei, as highlighted by Sabrina Meng at the Huawei Connect 2023 event, continues to invest in core AI technologies to build a robust computing infrastructure globally. The “All Intelligence” strategy aims to enable various sectors to leverage new business opportunities facilitated by AI, providing the necessary computing power for training foundational models across industries.

Huawei envisions the emergence of the intelligent economy, integrating technologies like 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create value and innovative solutions that enhance performance, societal well-being, and environmental sustainability. By 2030, the intelligent economy is projected to reach a value of $18.8 trillion.

Huawei’s Pangu Weather Model, used for global weather forecasting, is set to benefit Thailand’s Meteorological Department, offering rapid weather predictions and applications in diverse fields like automotive, healthcare, mining, and R&D.

Alibaba Cloud and Tencent are also making significant strides in AI development, introducing advanced solutions for businesses across various industries. Alibaba Cloud’s OpenSearch LLM-Based Conversational Search and Tencent’s innovative AI models like Hunyuan demonstrate the ongoing efforts to enhance AI capabilities and streamline operations.

While the US remains a leader in AI innovation, China’s rapid progress in AI technology is evident through the development of competitive AI models and applications. The global landscape is witnessing a dynamic shift in AI advancements, with both countries contributing significantly to the evolution of AI technologies.
