Microsoft’s newly appointed head of AI, Mustafa Suleyman, has unveiled plans for the establishment of an AI hub in London.
In his inaugural blog post on the company’s website, Suleyman disclosed the strategic initiative to launch an AI hub in London, emphasizing the recruitment of top-tier talent for this endeavor.
The forthcoming AI hub in London, situated at Microsoft’s Paddington office, will be spearheaded by Jordan Hoffmann, an accomplished AI scientist and engineer with prior experience at Inflection and DeepMind.
The decision to inaugurate this hub follows Suleyman’s recent appointment by Satya Nadella to oversee Microsoft’s consumer AI products and research, encompassing projects such as Copilot, Bing, and Edge.
During the transition from Inflection AI to Microsoft, Suleyman surprised his former team by introducing Nadella at a gathering, where the announcement was met with astonishment and applause.
As Microsoft AI gears up to expand its team, Suleyman highlighted the quest for exceptional individuals to join the London hub, with job postings slated for release in the near future.
The establishment of Microsoft AI London signifies a significant investment in the UK’s AI talent pool, with a focus on fostering innovation and growth within the region.
This strategic move aligns with Microsoft’s broader commitment to advancing AI capabilities and nurturing talent, as evidenced by their recent investments in upskilling the UK workforce and fortifying the infrastructure to support the burgeoning AI economy.
The Microsoft AI London hub complements the existing research efforts at Microsoft Research Cambridge and underscores the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of AI innovation while benefiting individuals and organizations across the UK.
