Spotify currently provides users with various methods to search for songs within its app. A new AI tool has been introduced in the development phase, aiming to instantly generate music based on user-input word strings.

The feature, known as AI Playlist, is initially accessible to Music Premium members in the U.K. and Australia. This innovative application enables users to transform their imaginative concepts into musical compositions, as described by Spotify.

Several AI Playlists have been curated by Spotify, such as “An independent folk playlist to offer my mind a warm embrace,” “Music to accompany me through allergy season,” “A playlist that evokes the protagonist within me,” “Melancholic melodies for painting withering flowers,” and “Prepping with the girls.” Users are encouraged to craft dynamic playlists like “reviving the dance floor” and “Tunes for a twilight horseback ride.”

Spotify has specified that AI Playlist is not designed to respond to queries unrelated to music, such as current affairs or specific brands. Moreover, the company has taken measures to filter out “inappropriate prompts.”

The AI Playlist feature can draw inspiration from a wide range of topics including websites, animals, hobbies, movie characters, colors, symbols, and more, as stated by Spotify. The organization emphasized that the most compelling playlists may emerge from topics that encompass a mix of genres, moods, artists, or eras. Users also have the option to refine and enhance the playlists by indicating their preferences, such as requesting “more pop” or “less energetic” tracks.

Interested subscribers can access the AI Playlist beta version on the iOS and Android apps in the U.K. and Australia. Spotify expressed its commitment to further develop this innovative feature to better cater to its audience in the upcoming months.

According to Daniel Ek’s tweet, a new beta test for AI playlists has been launched, utilizing AI chat prompts to personalize playlists. Although still a work in progress, the feature is generating excitement among users. The initial rollout targets Premium users in the U.K. and Australia.

Overall, Spotify users actively engage in nearly 2 billion music discoveries daily, facilitated by features like the AI DJ introduction last year, Discover Weekly, and the Daily Mix playlists.

Furthermore, reports indicate that Spotify is planning to increase subscription fees in the United States later this year, following similar adjustments in its primary market and other regions. Under the updated pricing, individual plans are expected to rise by approximately \(1 per month, while family and duo plans for couples will see a \)2 increment.
